I would like to point out although I went through the install process above, I later decided to install PHP/MySQL on virtualbox. This allows me to have a separate development environment completely which is not tied into the OS. I can uninstall or remove leopard and it won't affect my dev environment. I can even transport the image to other virtualbox installs and take my dev environment wherever I go. This makes is much more portable imo.
